N ot on ly are low leakage technologies and circu its w ell researched, but also arch itectu ral controlm ethods are stud ied hotly. Caches represent a s izab le fraction of the total pow er consump tion, so they need to be m anaged firstly. LRU is the m ost popular replacem ent algor ithm used in set associative caches, bu t researches show that the latter blocks in LRU list are rarely accessed again. LRU assist algorithm proposed in th is paper exp loits ex isting LRU inform ation to expand the low leak portion in cache in add ition to the tmi ebased d row sy and decay m echan ism. S mi u lation resu lts show that the cache off ratio can be increased by 15% and leakage pow er is greatly saved w ith neglig ib le perform ance overhead.
