Unit 8 View Scene 1: At a public phone (Helen runs to the public phone, apparently upset and quite out of breath. She picks up the receiver.) Police Officer: Good afternoon, City Police Station. Can I help you? Helen: Oh, hello, officer, Id like to report a mugging, please. I just had my briefcase stolen a few minutes ago. Police Officer: Just a minute and Ill take some details. Tell me how it happened, first of all. Helen: OK, I just came out of the bank when a young man bumped into me. Then before I knew it, he snatched my briefcase and ran off. Police Officer: Thats too bad. What does your briefcase look like? Helen: Well, its a soft leather one, you know, a heavy box-type, like a mans. Police Officer: Fine. Any distinguishing features? Helen: Pardon? Police Officer: Any marks or badges on it that make it stand out? Helen: Marks? Let me see... Oh yes, theres a small scratch on the back, at the bottom in the left-hand corner. I got it from a nail a couple of days ago. Police Officer: OK, got it. So what did you have inside the briefcase? Helen: Well, all my term papers due this afternoon. But fortunately, I saved them in my computer. But Ill have to hand the hard copies in soon. Police Officer: Well, youre lucky. What else? Helen: I had my credit cards in my purse so I didnt lose that, but I did have $500 that Id just withdrawn to pay for next months rent. Oh, and my student card and drivers license too. Police Officer: OK, I see. And... could you tell me what the mugger looked like? Helen: Well, thats a bit hard, you know. Um, it happened in such a short time. But Ill try. Yes, hes about 20 years old, very short and sturdy-looking, Oh, he was wearing a brown jacket, and he has a mustache too. Police Officer: Anything more? Helen: Im afraid not.
