In this section, the team and its leadership basically lay the foundation for the improvement effort the business is now pursuing. History has shown that a well-defined project with appropriate scope and objectives is a critical success factor for any improvement effort. The team working with leadership, establish precise and realistic improvement objectives for a manageable and bounded area of business operations. A key output of this section is a team charter defining how this 6 Sigma improvement supports the corporation and business success factors. This section also introduces improvement teams to the concept of customer and process indicators. Measurement plays a significant role in the Sigma Improvement Process. Therefore, some of the conclusions and measures identified in this section will serve as a platform for the process measurement systems the team will use to evaluate current process performance and identify improvements in later sections. The section concludes with exercises and tools for increasing the effectiveness of the team. With every experience, the team can expect to get better at making data-based decisions. These same tools may be used in later sections to help the team face new challenges and continuously improve team performance. 22 * * Measure Performance is the second section of the Sigma Improvement Process which builds on the Define Opportunities outputs. In this section, the process Critical Customer Requirements (CCRs) are formalized with operational definitions to ensure the proper paramet
