Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of different fractions of Kuding Tea on the levels of serum GLU, TC, TG, SOD, MDA and NEFA in alloxan-induced diabetic mice. Method Diabetic mice were induced by a single high dose intraperitoneal injection of 200 mg·kg-1body weight (BW) neonatal alloxan. The lyophilized powder of water extract from kuding tea was extracted with 100 % alcohol at 65 °C, resulting in fraction I, the residue was then subjected to the same process with 50 % aqueous alcohol to yield fraction II, and the last residue was used as fraction III. The diabetic mice were treated with these three fractions, respectively, by intragastric administration for 4 weeks. The anti-diabetic effects were evaluated by the levels of several diabetes-related parameters including serum GLU、TC、TG、SOD、MDA and NEFA. Result The GLU and TC levels in diabetic mice were significantly reduced after 4 weeks’ingestion of fraction I. Also, fraction I ameliorated the development of hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia and lipid peroxidation in alloxan-induced diabetic mice. Conclusion The fraction I of Kuding Tea could ameliorate diabetes-related syndromes in alloxan induced diabetic mice.
