Evaluation of the Writing Ability in Imitation of Benchmark Papers
---Based on the Investigation of Students from NO.6 Middle School
Abstract: English writing is one of the four basic language command abilities. The research of cultivating and improving writing ability attracts more and more attention. Furthermore, lots of scholars have devoted themselves to probing into the factors that affect the performance of writing through evaluation .Nowadays, essay imitation has become the most popular way to cultivate and improve writing ability among English learners especially among primary learners. The paper is to investigate the situation of the English writing imitation of Grade 8 students in XinZhou No. 6 Middle School to study and summarize the evaluation criteria, analyze the reason and propose relevant measures. The results of the study are as follows:(1)The majority of Grade 8 students have imitated the model essay, and they usually recite model essay or passage in the text or remember connective words and imitate to write in writing exercise and examination;(2) the teachers mainly judge if there is imitation in writing by the structure of passages and sentence structure;(3)the teachers think writing ability reflect the English critical thinking ability and mainly embodied in the development of the discourse, collocation of words, sentence structures and grounds of the argument, all of which aspects are the evaluation criteria.

1 Introduction
1.1 Purpose and significance
Writing is one of the four fundamental language skills. Writing ability is an important embodiment of one’s comprehensive quality. The stronger writing competence is, the more actively one communicates. Writing test is one of the most important way to evaluate students’ writing ability.
