Al Gore the author — Albert Arnold Gore, Jr. (born March 31, 1948) is an American environmental activist, author, businessperson, former politician, and former journalist. — He served as the 45th Vice President of the United States from 1993 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton. Gore was involved in American politics for over three decades, serving first in the U.?S. House of Representatives (1977–85) and later in the U.?S. Senate (1985–93) (representing Tennessee) before becoming vice president. Gore was the Democratic nominee for president in the 2000 presidential election. He won the popular vote by approximately 500,000, but ultimately lost the electoral vote to Republican candidate George W. Bush. A legal controversy over the Florida election recount was eventually settled in favor of Bush by the Supreme Court. Awards: Webby Award (2005) Primetime Emmy Award for Current TV (2007) Runner-up for Times 2007 Person of the Year. Clean Air Act The Clean Air Act is a United States federal law designed to control air pollution on a national level. It requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop and enforce regulations to protect the general public from exposure to airborne contaminants that are known to be hazardous to human health. The 1963 Act established a basic research program, which was expanded in 1967. The major amendments to the law, requiring regulatory controls for air pollution, were enacted in 1970, 1977 and 1990.
