序數 I. 形成方式： 英文裡的數，可以分為「基數」（Cardinal number）與「序數」（Ordinal number）。基數就是one, two, three . . .。而序數就是指「排順序」的數，例如第一first，第二second . . .。 （1）不規則的基數與序數變化，如第一first (1st )，第二second (2nd )，和第三third (3rd )。 （2）規則的基數與序數變化。從第四開始，在基數字尾加入th，如fourth (4th )。 但仍有一些變化需注意，介紹如下。 ( 直接加入th，如 sixth (6th), eleventh (11th), seventeenth (17th). ( 字尾是ve，必須現將ve改成f，再加上th，如fifth (5th) 以及twelfth (12th)。 ( 字尾是t，直接加上h，如eighth (8th)。 ( 字尾是e，必須把e去掉，再加上th，如ninth (9th)。 ( 字尾是ty，必須去y，再加上ieth，如thirtieth (30th) 以及twentieth (20th)。 ( 兩位數的整數，只需改變個位數成為序數，中間記得加連字號（-），如twenty-one(twenty-first (21st)，forty-three ( forty-third (43rd)， fifty-five (fifty-fifth (55th)。 II.用法： (1) 序數之前一定要加上定冠詞the，或是所有格。 1. Summer is the second season of the year. 2. Anne is Mr. Wang’s second daughter. 3. Saturday is the last day of the week. (last同時擁有最高級以及序數的特性。) (2) 序數若與基數同時出現修飾名詞。序數在前，基數在後。 1. The first five fans can get the singer’s latest album. (3) 序數若當副詞時，定冠詞the以及所有格省略。 1. Who finished the homework first last night? (4) 常使用序數的時機： (「樓層」： The Lin family live on the second floor. (「日期」：My birthday is on July 31st . (寫法可只用基數，如My birthday is on July 31. 但是唸時，一定要讀成序數。) (「幾週年」：Tomorrow is my father’s sixtieth birthday.
