Do exercise 4 and discover the rules. Turn to page 12 and find out the rules of word formation. By adding -ing to a verb, we can change the verb into a noun. That means we can change “doing some sport” into “the name of the sport”. By adding -er to a verb, we can change the verb into a noun. That means we can change “doing some sport” into “the person who does the sport”. 2. Means of word-formation in general Affixation, conversion, and composition (or compounding) are the chief means of word-formation in English.
