Panamax type: the breadth is less than 32.25 m. Post-Panamax type: the breadth is free from the limit of 32.5m. The former two types of container ship are limited by the pronounced cut-off value of 32.5 m for the breadth corresponding to the maximum value allowed for the Panama Canal. The last type is free from this limitation because such kind of ships refuses to navigate through the Panama Canal. The present world’s fleet of container ships consists from the first generation, with tonnage being around 1000 TEUs, to the 6th generation, with the tonnage being around 8000 TEUs and above. In 2004, the largest container ship in the world with tonnage of 8000 TEUs was launched in our country. A container ship, with its capacity of 9500TEUs and the length of about 350m, called on Guangzhou Port recently.
