A Lesson in a Lab 1. Teaching content analysis The main topic of this module is “a lesson in a lab”, and the students are supposed to learn some basic knowledge of science and science subjects, including general science and some scientific experiments information. During the process of gaining the information, the students will learn some new words and expressions, and still in this way their interest for science subjects learning can be improved. This period of class will cover the Introduction and Reading and Vocabulary parts. In order to arouse the students interest, we will first introduce some general science knowledge. And we will introduce a common chemistry experiment. 2. Teaching aims Knowledge: a. New words and expressions The students are supposed to remember and be able to use the following words. Some important words: conclusion, aim, result, method, solid, liquid, expand, contract, steam, mixture, substance and the names of some chemicals. Important expressions: react with, add…to…, used to, in the area of b. Important sentence structures Water exists as a liquid, a solid and a gas. Steel is a mixture of iron and other substances. Add some water to the tube. Skills: integrated skills training, listening, speaking and reading skills should be improved in this lesson Emotional value: while learning this lesson, the students are supposed to learn something about chemistry experiments, however, in English. In this way, we hope to develop students’ interests in learning both English and other science subjects. 3. Focal and difficult points The focal points New words and expressions, make sure the students get enough practice and be able to use them.
