About the 2nd World Investment Forum (Last updated on July 6, 2010) The 2nd World Investment Forum (WIF), sponsored by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and organized the Ministry of Commerce of China, will take place in Xiamen, China from September 6 to 9, 2010 as a back-to-back event of the 14th China International Fair for Investment and Trade. The overarching theme of the WIF will be “Investing in Sustainable Development”. I. About UNCTAD The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is the principal organ of the United Nations General Assembly dealing with trade, development, finance, technology, investment and sustainable development issues. Established in 1964, the UNCTAD is headquartered in Geneva and currently has 192 member states. II. About WIF The World Investment Forum (WIF) is the global forum on investment and development issues organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Held biennially, the forum aims to strengthen international cooperation in the interest of promoting international investment and its contribution to economic growth and development. The WIF brings together all investment stakeholders, including governments, businesses, international organizations, investment promotion agencies, civil society, and international investment experts and practitioners from across the world. The first WIF was held in April 2008 in Accra, capital of Ghana, attracting a number of incumbent and former heads of state and ministerial-rank government officials, as well as more than 500 company executives, private investors, and investment promotion professionals from across the world. The second WIF will be held from September 6 to 9, 2010 in Xiamen, China. The third WIF will be staged in Doha, Qatar in 2012. III. Background of WIF The second WIF will take place at a time when the repercussions of the global financial crisis are subsiding and the global economy
