Motor Airend Assembly;Specifications are listed in Field Service Manual Large Rotary, General Section, sheets 3334;Specifications are listed in Field Service Manual Large Rotary, General Section, sheets 3334;Notice the puller slots chamfer;Fit key to shaft.;Carefully remove any high spots;Clean and remove any rough places on flange of motor;Check seal retainer gasket location;;Be certain seal is installed correctly. Single stage = Spring toward motor Two stage = Spring toward airend;.;;Check to be sure gearcase is oriented. properly.;;Carefully place alignment sleeve over shaft and into gearcase bore.;The gearcase is now perfectly aligned.;If alignment sleeve is not available, a dial indicator can be used. Align within .001 inch.;Be careful to not cause the gearcase to shift! Recheck alignment after all bolts are tight.;Drill a 7/16 inch diameter hole through both flanges near the top and near the bottom of the assembly.;Use a number 8 tapered reamer to create a tapered hole for the dowel pin.;Do not drive the dowel into the the hole too tight!;Use Loctite 242 when installing the sleeve. Lubricate the seal surface.;Use Loctite 242 on the seal retainer bolts.;Heat the gears to 275°F (135°C).;Install gears with puller holes showing. ;Use Loctite 242 on retainer bolts.;Repeat the process for the airend gear.;Carefully assemble the motor to the airend. Be sure the flange gasket is in place.;Use a feeler gauge between the rotors to gently lock the airend from rotating.;Use a dial indicator to check the gear backlash.;The backlash specifications are listed in the Field Service Manual, Large Rotary, General Section, sheets 3334
