PAGE  The Fifth Period The General Idea of This Period   In this period, we are going to put the Ss into groups of 3 or 4,discuss and talk, then write down their descriptions at last, the teacher calls back the answers from the class. Teaching Aim   To improve the Ss’ abilities in listening and speaking. Teaching Important Points   Improve the Ss’ abilities in listening and speaking. Teaching Difficult Points   Use the words and sentence patterns to talk freely and correctly. Teaching Methods   Pair work or group work to get all the students take part in the activities. Teaching Aids   1. a tape recorder.   2. a slide show.   3. a computer. Teaching Procedures  Step 1 Greetings and Lead-in T: Hello, boys and girls. Ss: Good morning, Miss Li. T: Sit down, please. Today we are going to deal with the Pronunciation, Function and Speaking.  Step 2 Speaking 1. Work in groups. Describe your favourite teachers. T: Hello, boys and girls, read the example after me please. S: OK. Let’s start. 2. Then put the Ss into groups of 3 or 4. First they must agree on a teacher they all like. Then they can write the description. Call back the answers from the class. Group 1. This teacher is our favourite. He is energetic, intelligent and humour. He often tells a joke in class. We like him and his class. Guess who this teacher is! 3. Pair work  T: Read through the example dialogue. Pay attention to the intonation. Example: S: Do you enjoy mathematics? S: I t’s all right, but I prefer Chinese and English. S: Why is that? S: Because I’m not very good at science. T: Like this, talk about the parts of school life you enjoy most and why. For example: I found out that Liu likes sports very much, especially gymnastics. She isn’t good at maths and science, but she loves Chinese literature.  Step 3 Listening and Vocabulary T: Listen to a conversation between an English teacher and his students; complete the sentences
