Exogenous antigens are degraded in the endosomes by proteolytic enzymes and the resulting peptides are bound to MHC class Ⅱmolecules. The peptide-MHC is then presented on the surface of the APC for recognition by CD4+ T cells. The processing of exogenous antigens requires cathepsins and invariant chain (Ii chain), and loading of class Ⅱmolecules requires HLA-DM molecules.;Endogenous antigens are proteins produced by the cell itself and are processed in the cytosol. They are degraded by the proteasome. The peptides thus produced are transported by TAP into the endoplasmic reticulum, where they are bound to the newly synthesized MHC class Ⅰmolecules. A number of molecules including the proteasome and various chaperones are involved in the processing of endogenous antigens. Antigenic peptides are presented in association with MHC class Ⅰmolecules for recognition by CD8+ T cells.;Thanks !
