ABSTRACT Currently,the rain overfall of the thirty—-seven municipal pump stations along Suzhou Creek is the key issue to improve and stabilize the Suzhou Creek water quality。Based on the review and analysis of the measurements of reducing the overfall of municipal pump stations，the overfall characteristics of the municipal pump stations along Suzhou Creek are studied systematically and thoroughly，and the scientific and feasible engineering measurements also are put forward in this paper． The main conclusions include as follows． 1．The measurements of pollutants control in sewerage are put forward for the first time in our country,and the necessary and feasibility of reducing the overall of municipal pump stations along Suzhou Creek by using engineering measurements are pointed out． 2．From the overfall’S causes and formations．the data of the overfall of municipal pump stations along Suzhou Creek is analyzed accurately,and characteristics of the larger overfall—amount pump stations，the overfall’S formations，the overfall’S water quality and its influence on Suzhou Creek are gmned．The larger overfall—amount pump stations and rain overfalI are the key adverse factors of Suzhou Creek water quality． 3．On the base of overfallS characteristics．the scientific and feasible engineering measurements are proposed，including constructing the chief interception pipe along the south bank，constructing the rain storage tank，dredging the sewage pipe under Suzhou Creek，eliminating the pipe leakage，rebuilding the operation—test pump stations and perfecting the sewerage．They are very important for reducing the overfall amount and pollutant loads effectively to protect the Suzhou Creek water quality． 4 Thc effect of five rain tanks are predicted．including the reduced overfall amount． the reduced pollutant amount of CODen and the increased concentration value of CODcr in Suzhou Creek．The results show that the five rain storage tanks are very important for improving the Suzhou Creek water qual
