职称英语2015版 课文详解 第三十四课
34. Should You Go Organic? New
你应该“有机”吗?
1. The trend(倾向、走向) toward “eating to live” rather than “living to eat” also includes a pervasive(普遍的) issue (问题)totally separate in character(合适) from arguments swirling around specific(特殊的) claims(要求) for specific foods and is virtually(事实上) guaranteed to produce controversy(争论) among both the ill-informed(所知不多的) and the well-informed(见多识广的): Are — or are not —organically grown foods superior?
2. Frequently(经常地) caught amid the arguments is the consumer(消费者), who may harbor no overwhelming(势不可挡) enthusiasm(热爱) for alfalfa or acerola cherries but who becomes almost(几乎) involuntarily (不自觉的)a participant in the health-food scene when encountering(遭遇) the terms organic and natural displayed(显示) on package(包装) and carton(纸箱) by merchandisers(推销员) who fully appreciate(重视) contemporary America’s interest in the dietary(饮食) route to health. Moreover(此外), consumers are probably uncertain(不确定) whether organic is better than natural or even whether it matters.

3. Should the consumer decide that it matters, he or she will rapidly(很快地) discover that the issue is not clear-cut, nor are the answers conveniently simple, for arguments(争论、参数) on both sides of the organic question are substantial(大量的) and are supported(支持) by reputable(有名的、受尊敬的) and experienced (经验丰富的)adherents.
3. 如果消费者想确定有机的重要性,他们会很快发现这个问题并不明确, 其答案也模棱两可,因为对有机问题持正反两种观点的双方都有充分的证据 以及备受尊敬、经验丰富的支持者。
4. In considering(就…而论) the issue, the consumer needs to understand at the outset these three commonly used terms: organic, inorganic, and natural. The first two belong to the language of chemistry and have precise definitions(精确定义) within that field; however, they also possess(具有) generally accepted(普遍接受的) meanings which apply especially(
