Now let’s come to our text “ The Birth Of A Science”. Task 1: fast reading for the type of the writing of the text and try to find the general ideas of every paragraph . type of writing and summary of the idea This is a piece of narrative writing . The main ideas of the passage : the text tells about how Botany originated and developed into a new science. The general ideas of each paragraph: 1 paragraph: Carl Linnaeus was the first to group plants in families. 2 Daniel Solander traveled to promote Linnaeus’ new system in 1759. 3 Goseph Banks made a first journey to study wild plants in 1766. 4 Joseph Banks went to record, classify and describe plant and animal life in 1768. 5 Josep Banks had to supply money to equip the botany expedition. 6 On the voyage, Joseph Banks not only studied and described new plants,but also looked out for new economic species. 7 Joseph Banks returned in 177
