British Geography 1. Different Names (1) Geographical names: the British Isles, Great Britain, England (2) Full Name: the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland British Geography 2. Location: the geographical position Britain is an island country. It lies in the North Atlantic Ocean off the north coast of Europe. It is separated from the rest of Europe by the English Channel in the south and the North Sea in the east. The narrowest part between England and France is called the Straits of Dover, which is only 33 km across. From north to south 966km, from east to west 483, the coastline 11450km, any place from the sea 121km. British Geography 3. Topography Britain has been slowly tilting with the North-West slowly rising and the South-East sinking. The north and west of Britain are mainly Highlands.
