Chapter 6 Capacity and detailing of reinforced masonry members

* 同济大学建筑工程系-李翔 * In-situ cast ring beams should be placed at the top surface of foundations and floors having composite walls. Cross sectional height of ring beams may not be less than 240mm; longitudinal reinforcement may not be less than 4?12; longitudinal reinforcement should be extended into structural columns and be anchored; stirrups of ?6@200 are suggested in ring beams. 6.Joints between brick masonry and structural columns should be zigzag constructed . Ties of 2?6 should be placed every 500mm along wall height and may be extended into walls no less than 600mm on each side. 7.Construction sequence of composite walls should be first constructing wall then cast structural column. * 同济大学建筑工程系-李翔 * Differences: 1 Reinforced masonry At failure, reinforcement yields and wall is crushed. 2 Confined unreinforced masonry Horizontal and vertical reinforced concrete members are placed to confine masonry. Large deformation happens to the wall before failure. Failure mode is the same as reinforced masonry. 3 Intensively reinforced masonry On the basis of confined unreinforced masonry, concrete columns and horizontal reinforcement strips are placed in the wall in addition to structural columns and ring beams. Not only the confinement effect but also the shear and compression strength are increased. * 同济大学建筑工程系-李翔 * Characteristics: Good compressive, tensile and shear strength Good seismic resistance Applications: Medium or high-rise buildings in seismic area
