Jessica Davidson Paragraph1 According to the Bible story, there was a time when the whole earth was of one language and of one speech. But when it occurred to the people to build a tower that would reach unto Heaven itself, the Lord was angry and said, “Let us go down, and there confound their language that they may not understand one anothers speech.” And the building was stopped and the people scattered because they could no longer understand one another. confound?somebody:?to confuse and surprise somebody.使混淆,使混乱;?挫败 synonym?baffle The sudden rise in share prices has confounded economists. Deliberation of the Tower of Babel What’s the significance of the story of the Tower of Babel The story shows human disobedience and arrogance, and humans want to erect symbols of their achievements. Why did it cause God to confound the language of people, giving them new ones? To warn them of their consequences of their behavior. It certainly must be a wake up call to them telling that they were not gods. By dividing them, God remind them of who they were and Who he is. It indicates that human arrogance only end ups in chaos.
