Class: Classes 3, 4, Grade 2008
Purpose:
The students will have basic understanding about creating fictional plots
Objectives: Students will be able to
Produce an article with ironic style with an intriguing plot.
Resources/ Materials:
Powerpoint: TaskA-6 —creating fictional plots
Course magazines Write to Learn
Handouts after class
Activities and Procedures:
Comments on the homework of Task A-3 and point out the well-written sentences and phrases; draw students’ attention to the grammatical mistakes and Chinglish expressions.
Select the best article(s) and ask the student writer to read his or her own article aloud for group appreciation.
Explain the Input reading in Task A-5: “Fresh air will kill you”.
Ask ss to find out the positive and negative words describing fresh air.
Compare the two sets of words and try to explore the ironic tone of the author
Discuss the effects and purpose of the diction
Summarize the ways of being ironic
Analyze the Sample writing by the previous students “From Human Beings to Apes”
Ask the students to discuss the title, the plots and the diction of the article
Present their findings and share their ideas with the classmates
Ask the students to improve on the article in plots and diction.
Analyze the Sample writing by the previous students “If Animals were in charge of the world”
Ask the students to discuss the title, the plots and the diction of the article
