China’s auto sales top the world for sixth consecutive year    China’s auto sales top the world for sixth consecutive year   China’s auto sales totaled 23.49 million units in 2014, up 6.9% from 21.98 million a year earlier, securing its first place in the world for six years in a row, according to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).   New energy vehicle (NEV) sales volume hit 74,763 units during the period, a whopping year-on-year increase of 320%.   According to a director from the CAAM, China’s auto output and sales both showed steady growth in 2014.   To be specific, China produced 23.72 million units in 2014, up 7.3% from a year earlier, with a decrease of 7.5 percentage points in the growth rate compared with 2013. Over the period, the country sold 23.49 million units, up 6.9% on a year-on-year basis, with a drop of 7 percentage points in the growth rate from a year earlier.   According to the CAAM data, passenger cars were the most eye-catching of all kinds of autos in the country last year, with output and sales hitting 19.92 million units and 19.7 million units, respectively, up 10.2% and 9.9% compared with 2013.   Judging from output and sales of different types of passenger cars, SUVs(sport utility vehicles) and MPVs (multipurpose vehicles) were the most- sought types in China in 2014.   Data showed that SUV output and sales in 2014 enjoyed a year-on-year growth rate of 37.7% and 36.4%, respectively, while MPV output and sales grew by 49.4% and 46.8%, respectively, on a year-on-year basis over the period.   The figures dwarfed those of sedan cars, which saw a year-on-year increase of 3.1% in output and sales in 2014. In addition, the output and sales of crosstype passenger cars fell by 20.6% and 18.1% in 2014 respectively, while commercial vehicle output and sales totaled 3.8 million units and 3.79 million units last year, down 5.69% and 6.53% compared with a year earlier, respectively.
