Introduce China in English 用英语说中国 Chapter Two Traditional Chinese Confucianism 中国传统儒学 Nowadays, hundreds of Confucius Institutes孔子学院 have been set up in many countries, such as USA , France , Uzbekistan, South Korea, Japan and so on Up to July 2010, there were 316 Confucius Institutes and 337 Confucius Classrooms in 94 countries and regions. In 2001,there were more than 200 Chinese teachers working in the United States. Their purposes are to develop Chinese language courses, train Chinese language instructors, provide information and services concerning Chinese education, culture, economy and society, and promote research about contemporary China. Therefor, It is very important for us Chinese to know something about Kongzi Confucius 2. Confucius and His Doctrines 2.1 Life of Confucius Confucius 551 B.C.-479 B.C. , usually called Kongzi in modern Chinese, founder of Confucianism, is respected as a great philosopher, thinker and educator of ancient China, and is also regarded as one of the most prominent figures in history. His ancestors were of the royal clan of the state of Song and later moved to the State of Lu. His father died when he was only 3 years old and left nothing but poverty to him. He was poor in his childhood. When he was young, he was at one time an official in charge of accounting and animal husbandry. Fifteen years later, his mother died, then, he began his career as a teacher. By the age of 40, he set up a school to popularize Confucianism and it is widely accepted that the total number of his students was 3000, 72 of whom mastered Liu yi six skills, namely rites, music, shooting, driving, books and mathematics. In his teaching life, Confucius held no discrimination on education and carried out school education among ordinary people, which used to be the privilege of the noble. 在40岁时，他创设了学校，专门教授他的观点学说，并广为人们所接受。相传他有弟子三千，其中有七十二位成为精通六艺的贤人。在教学生涯中，他主张实行无差别教育，从不根据家庭背景来选择学生，打破了过去只有贵族才能受教育的特权。 He was very fond of learning and gradually ga
