Syllabus for Freshmen English Reading 2005-2006 Class: 外語學院 D Instructor: Beryl Kuo 郭文瑛 Time place: 週五 B309 8-10:00 ; 週三 L205 10-12:00 隔週上課 教材、範圍: Active Skills for Reading Book 4；期中考Units 1~3、期末考Units 4~6– listening, speaking, reading and writing, to help learners build up self-reading skills and stimulate their self-learning habits, and to prepare learners to be a good ‘storyteller’ – being able to re-read and make meaning to the literary classical or pop literature texts. Objectives: Students, after taking this course, are expected to: 藉由課程相關議題，設計各種練習正確的英文之機會，讓學生可充分利用上課及課餘時間不斷使用英文，提升英文說、讀、聽、寫的程度 利用學校現有的教學資源及器材，把東西文化之相似、相異處彰顯出來，以提供做為「Intercultural study」的內容，進一步增加學習之趣味性，希望藉此提高學生學習英文的興趣。 依照學生的興趣及能力，介紹各類課外讀物 讀本、網路、講義 來增進學生英文閱讀能力、提供同學自己思考、詮釋閱讀內容。 成績考核： 平時成績：50% 包含英文能力測驗 10%、報告 20%、準備及課堂表現各10% 期中考：20% 期末考：30% 自本學年度開始，大一英文改為集體命題、考試、閱卷，因此老師們必須照學校要求的內容上課；以考試為前題的學期進度是上面所列出的12課，但是每位老師可能會依個人對教學的不同信念、經驗、學習過程，在教學之著重點上有相異的要求。在這班上只是乖乖來上課而從來不參與口頭練習、不定時做作業的同學將無法得到平時分數，如果考試成績又不能達到本班標準，將無法過關；修這門課而想得到好成績者，請從一開始就跟緊進度，有問題千萬要隨時提出並解決問題，否則一路追趕的讀書狀況是會很痛苦、不堪的。請充分利用你們所繳交的每分錢、所花費的每分鐘來『使你們的英文程度精進』！ 上課將以英文進行以訓練學生的英文聽力，也鼓勵學生儘量以英文作答，來增加口語表達之機會，如果同學真的不願嘗試、學習，他們可先用中文作答再請教老師如何正確使用英文，但記住，一整學期都不練習也毫無表現者是無法期待好的平時成績的。同學請儘快找五、八個同學組成讀書小組 不必只找同系的同學 ，並選擇課本內的某個議題做為小組研究、探索、報告的題目〈先和老師討論、確認題目〉；你們在期末考之前必須繳交書面報告並在班上發表，成績將做為部分學期考核，考試容易緊張失常的同學可利用這個小組報告平衡分數，所以請早些準備，給自己足夠時間發表最好的作品。 Dos Don’ts: Students are expected to participate actively in all learning activities. – students must well prepare the lesson before they come so that they can follow the discussions/lecturers and will be able to express their own thoughts There is no ‘right or wrong answer’, you can only ‘do it’ to demonstrate that you have learned; if students have something to say but do not know how to say it in English, they can ask questions first.
