Personal Philosophy of Education Introduction At the end of this semester, reflecting on what I have learnt through this course, I realize that I really benefit a lot from studying this course. I come to understand a lot of valuable knowledge in the cultural foundations of education, especially in the philosophy, ideology, and theories of education. I learnt that Idealism, Realism, and Thomism are considered to be more traditional philosophies resting on a foundation of metaphysics. Existentialism, Pragmatism, Philosophical Analysis and Postmodernnism are more recently developed philosophies that reject metaphysics. They emphasize areas such as epistemology, language, or social relationship rather than metaphysics. Ideology is closely related to education. Liberalism and Conservatism are two highly visible and influential ideologies that command a large number of adherents in American society and politics. They have a lot of implications for educational policy and legislation. Marxism is primarily surveyed as a tool of analysis to influence educational thinking especially among Postmodernists and Critical Theorists. Essentialism, Perennialism, Progressivisn, and critical Theory are four theories of education (Gutek, 2003). The knowledge I learnt from this course and the related courses in this program combined together may help me to do better in my future education leadership career. As an educator, I will consider these philosophies, ideologies and theories critically and in a developing attitude, taking advantages of their advantages and apply them in the real practice of my professional work. Statement of My Philosophic Vision I form my personal philosophy of education by combining the knowledge I learnt from this course and my working experience as an educator.
