混合充气索膜结构将轮式索结构和双层充气膜结构结合在一起，形成安全度极高的穹顶结构，是膜结构的最新发展形式。1997年建成的熊本公园穹顶采用的就是混合充气膜结构形式。其中央穹顶为一直径107m，顶部设有开孔的双层充气膜，上下膜层沿径向分布48条封闭的索，顶部开孔处有刚性锥台状框架，索膜周边支承在外围环桁架上。由于膜有索的附加支承，即使膜漏气，也不会有结构物坠落的危险。混合充气膜结构的出现为充气膜结构带来了新的发展机遇。 The fabric roof covers 430,000 sq.m. of plan area which is by far the largest roof structure in the world.
