Unfortunately, simply reducing electrode size is not the final answer, decreased size will also increase polarization at the electrode tip due to the smaller surface area. When an electrical current flows, the tip electrode attracts positively charged ions. Initially, the movements of these charged ions results in flow of current from the electrode to the myocardium. As the current pulse continues, a charged layer surrounds the tip electrode and produces a capacitive effect.
