This emergent trend in integrating public speaking into the English curriculum may signify the beginning of a new era in the English teaching of Chinese higher education. It is estimated that in the next few years a large number of Chinese institutions of higher learning will offer public speaking as an English course. Not only can it perfect the students’ oral English, but it can improve their writing ability and critical thinking. Therefore, the students will be more passionate about learning English. As a result, it is necessary to open English public speaking courses to English majors. This paper falls into five parts. The first part is introduction. It tells the background, function and general condition of English public speaking course in China. The second part elaborates on the advantages of opening English public speaking courses. The focus of this paper is laid in the third part. In this part, the ways to open English public speaking courses are fully presented. The fourth part explains the relationship between English public speaking course and English interpretation. In the last part, it makes a summary of the whole paper and looks into the future of English public speaking course in China. Key words: English public speaking; English curriculum; oral English 摘要： 近几十年来，越来越来的中国高校教师开设公共演讲课来满足学生对良好沟通技能技巧日益增长的需求。把公共演讲课纳入英语专业课程这一新的趋势可能代表着中国高校英语教学的新开端。据估计，在未来几年，会有日益增多的中国高校将开设英语演讲课。英语演讲课的开设不仅能够提高学生的口语水平，也能够提高学生的写作能力和批判性思维。所以，学生学习英语的热忱会日益高涨。
