Without the guidance of mature meridian theory, TCM is difficult to develop in the environment of strong development of modern western medicine. In the last seventy years, the research on the essence of meridian theory has made great progress with the help of modern science and technology. However, due to the lack of horizontal communication between different schools who only emphasized the scientificity and primacy of their own theories, the research of meridian was incomplete. Thus the theory of meridian developed in such academic environment was not fully accepted by the world in an integral, logical and scientific way. And that is the reason why no breakthrough was obtained in the research of meridian essence in many years.
