On the implementation of cooperative-team approach in Oral English Class for High School Students

Abstract
High school English teaching has witnessed great changes in the past decades and communication has become the main purpose of learning luanguage according to the requirement of Course Criteria for General Senior High School English which points out that high school English teaching ‘needs to pay special attention to raising students ability to carry on thinking and expressing in English’ (中华人民共和国教育部,2003:8) However, in China oral English learning has been the weak point in the past decades, so how to improve students’ communicative competence has become a significant problem that each English teacher faces to solve.
In the recent years, learner-centeredness has become the core of the educators’ attention, which turns the attention from teaching to learning to cultivate the learners potentiality in learning new things. Coopertive-team approach in oral English is a experimental pratice of the learner-centered theroy in which teacher is no longer the provider of knowledge but an organizer of the class, a particant and monitor, and students have become the center of the class and the major particants of the class.
The essay ,based on the related research both at home and abroad, attempts to explore the factors that affect students’ peformance in oral English class , introduce the implementation of cooperative-team apprroach in English class and point out the challenges teachers are to encounter and the change of teacher’s role in this teaching approach. Finally, the feedback on cooperative-team approach in oral English class proves that the implementation of this approach is successful and encouraging.
