It stands 135 metres (443 feet) high on the western end of Jubilee Gardens, on the South Bank of the River Thames in Lambeth, London, England, between Westminster and Hungerford Bridges. It is adjacent to Londons County Hall, and stands opposite the offices of the Ministry of Defence situated in Westminster which it overlooks to the west. ■Reading and vocabulary 1 Read the tour of London and follow it on the map. On page 66 you see a short tour guide. Now listen to it first, paying attention to the pronunciation, stress, and the intonation of the native speakers. For the second listening, try to read aloud the tour guide to the tape while listening. Now let’s go on to read the conversation. While reading try to cut(断句)/ the sentences into parts, blacken(涂黑) the predicates, shade(加影) the connectives and underline (划线)the expressions.
