The instruction of the AutoChem 2910 instrument by Xiaoxing Wang January, 2012 Introduction The AutoChem 2910 manufactured by Micromeritics is a highly automated catalyst characterization system. It can perform the following experiments individually or in various sequences: Temperature-Programmed Reduction Temperature-Programmed Oxidation Temperature-Programmed Desorption Temperature-Programmed Reaction Pulse Chemisorption TPR Analysis Description: Temperature-Programmed Reduction (TPR) determines the number of reducible species present in the catalyst and reveals the temperature at which the reduction occurs. The TPR analysis begins by flowing analysis gas (typically H2 in an inert carrier gas such as N2 or Ar) over the sample, usually starting at room temperature. While the gas is flowing, the temperature of the sample is increased linearly with time and the consumption of H2 is monitored and calculated. Procedure: Obtain the sample weight, then install the sample-loaded tube on the analyzer. 100-20 mesh particles (0.15-0.85 mm) are recommended for the analysis. Install the cold trap. Place the isopropyl alcohol (IPA) in a dewar and slowly pour liquid nitrogen (LN2) into the dewar as you stir the mixture. Continue to add LN2 and stir the mixture until it becomes a slush. (about -80 oC, Caution!!) Double click the shortcut of “AutoChem 2910” on the desktop. Click “File/Open/Sample information…” (Fig. 1)   Change to your own folder to save this new file. Click “OK” as shown in Fig. 2. Then a dialogue appears as shown in Fig. 3.  Click “Yes”. A new layout appears (Figure 4). Firstly, Click the “Replace All” button. Then choose the TPR files as C:\data\TPR.smp and click “OK” as shown in Fig. 5. Then Change the sample name, operator and sample weight in Fig. 4. After this, click “Save” and “Close”.
