British government began to charge new taxes (The Stamp Tax 印花税) （The Tea Tax 茶税） Slogan: “no taxation without representation” (没有代表权就不纳税) Boston Tea Party During the Boston Tea Party in 1773, American colonists snuck on board of three British trade ships and dumped more than 300 chests of tea into Boston Harbor. They threw the tea overboard to protest Great Britain’s tax on tea. The First Continental Congress In Sep.1774, the First Continental Congress was held in Philadelphia. The First Shot The first shot of the American Revolution took place in April 1775 at Concord, Massachusetts. American colonists shot at British soldiers, who had come to take away the colonists’ weapons. The American War of Independence Began. The Second Continental Congress In May 1775, a second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia and began to be serving as the national government. It founded a Continental Army and Navy under the commander of George Washington. July 4th, The National day The Declaration of Independence On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted a Declaration of Independence, drafted by Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin. The End of the War In October 1781, British general George Cornwallis surrendered to American general George Washington at Yorktown, Virginia.
