Competition Law Fall 2010 China University of Political Science and Law Prof. Maurice E. Stucke mstucke@ Course Objectives: This Course will focus on the developments in the U.S. antitrust laws, namely agreements that unreasonably restrain trade in violation of Section One of the Sherman Act, anticompetitive monopolistic practices and attempts to monopolize in violation of Section Two of the Sherman Act, and mergers that may substantially lessen competition or tend to create a monopoly in violation of Section 7 of the Clayton Act. Course Materials: Pitofsky, Goldschmid Wood, Trade Regulation: Cases Materials (6th ed. 2010); and Assigned judicial decisions articles. Course Requirements: Attendance Preparation: Students are required to attend each class. Students must read all of the assigned materials and be ready to participate in class discussion. Students must check with the Teacher’s Assistant for messages and handouts related to the class. Handouts, which may include slides for lectures, will not be distributed in class. Reading Assignments: The reading assignments include readings from the casebook, assigned judicial decisions, handouts, and slides. Evaluation: Each student will be evaluated upon: class attendance, preparation, and participation in class discussion and a final examination. Item 1 may constitute up to 20 percent of the student’s final grade, with the final examination constituting the balance. The final examination will be open book. Meetings with Professor: Office hours will be on Thursday afternoon. Students are encouraged to meet with the professor as often as necessary, simply by suggesting a time for the meeting. Course Assignments: The reading must be completed in advance of the class in which the assignments will be discussed. The progress of the class may alter the assignments, so students must attend class to be aware of the next class assignment. In the event absence is unavoidable, students sho
