* * We used multivariate analysis of variance to examine difference in domain means based on staff levels of part-time or full-time staff PHN and respondents who reported themselves to be manager. This slide shows the domain means for these three groups. All three groups assessed “linking people to resources” highest. This was the only domain where all three groups assessed their competency at a point higher than the scale mean. In every domain, managers assessed their competency higher than staff, and full-time staff assessed their competency higher than part-time staff. Many of these differences were statistically significant at p.05 levels. Managers perceived their competency higher than part-time staff in all 9 domains. The yellow asterix notes the 7 of 9 domains in which managers perceived higher competency than full time staff at statistically significant levels. The aqua hats show the domains where full time staff assessed their competency at significantly higher levels than part-time staff. * Before I continue with a discussion of the results and their implications locally and more generally, I want to point out a few limitations to keep in mind. With regard to the participant sample, the 63% response rate is good for survey data but does not represent all PHNs in the state. In addition, because the sampling frame used was voluntary and incomplete, those who did not participate may be different in some way than those who were invited to participate. We did an analysis of the representation of the participants compared to PHNs by region of the state from another data source, and estimated that PHNs in the Southeastern (which tends to the urban) and Western (which tends to be rural) regions of the state were under-represented in this sample compared to their actual numbers.
