* Are We Endangered language points: 1. We human beings could not survive without all the plants and animals around us. 介词短语 在这里表示假设条件，相当于if there were no plants or animals around us. 有时虚拟条件不用从句而用介词短语来表示。例如： Without her help, the police couldn’t have succeeded in solving the mystery in such a short time. 如果没有她的帮助，警察不可能在这么短的时间内破了这个疑案。 But for the storm, we would have arrived here earlier. 要不是那场暴风雨，我们早就到这里了。 We could have done better under more favourable conditions. 在更有利的条件下我们还可以做得更好。 2. Many of the earth’s plants and animals have already died out. And several other species are endangered. 地球上许多物种已经灭绝，另外一些已濒临灭绝的边缘。 die out 的意思是： 1)指家族，物种等死光，灭绝； 2)指习俗，做法观念等消失，过时； 3)指火熄灭。 The habitat of the species is being destroyed and has nearly died out. 这一物种因栖息地遭到破坏，几乎灭绝了。 The old traditions are dying out. 旧传统正在消失。 It took a long time before the big fire died out. 过了很长一段时间那场大火才渐渐熄灭。 3. If we know more about what causes endangerment, we may be able to take measures before it is too late. 如果我们能更多地了解致使生物濒危的原因，就能及时采取补救措施。 before 趁…还没有 They are thinking of buying the house before the prices go up. 他们正在考虑趁房价未长时把房子买下来。 I’ll send the e-mail to him now before I forget. 趁着还没忘记，我现在就去给他发邮件。 4. A species can become endangered for different reasons. 物种濒临危险有各种原因。 endanger 危害，危及（人或物）； 使遭到危险； 即cause danger to sb. or sth.; put sb. or sth in danger The oil spill endangered thousands of birds. 石油的溢泄危及成千上万的鸟儿。 The polluted air in the city is badly endangering the health of the people. 城市中被污染的空气严重地危及人民的健康。 5. When the habitat of a species is changed or destroyed, the animal or plant has to either adapt to the change or find a new house. 当一个物种的栖息地被改变或遭到破坏时。这个物种就必须去适应这种变化找到一个新的家园。 adapt to sth. adapt oneself to sth. When you are abroad, you must find ways to adapt yourself to the culture and custom there. 你到国外后，要设法使自己适应那里的文化和风俗习惯。 As few students can read Shakespeare in the original, we are going to have the book adapted for Senior One studen
