An artifact can be any of the following: A document, such as Business Case or Software Architecture Document A model, such as the Use-Case Model or the Design Model A model element, i.e. an element within a model, such as a class, or a subsystem Business Modeling Artifact Set Artifact: Business Use-Case Model The business use-case model is a model of the business intended functions. The business use-case model is used as an essential input to identify roles and deliverables in the organization. Artifact: Business Object Model The business object model is an object model describing the realization of business use cases. Requirements Artifact Set Artifact: Use-Case Model The use-case model is a model of the systems intended functions and its environment, and serves as a contract between the customer and the developers. The use-case model is used as an essential input to activities in analysis, design, and test. Analysis Design Artifact Set Artifact: Analysis Model An object model describing the realization of use cases, and which serves as an abstraction of the Artifact: Design Model. The Analysis Model contains the results of use case analysis, instances of the Artifact: Analysis Class. The Analysis Model is an optional artifact. Artifact: Deployment Model The Deployment Model shows the configuration of processing nodes at run-time, the communication links between them, and the component instances and objects that reside on them.
