Significance of the study There are a lot of English reading skills summarized by experts from china and foreign countries. Some well-known foreign linguist experts divided the reading process into three models: bottom-up, top-down and interactive model of reading. Interactive model is the main theme of theoretical research in recent years. The top-down model overemphasizes the use of background knowledge and ignores some lower level skills such as the rapid identification of vocabulary and sentence structure. However, interactive theory of reading not only pays attention to higher level reading skills as using schematic knowledge to predict and infer the meaning of the content or new words, but also stresses the rapid decoding ability of lower levels. These two abilities can complement each other in the actual process of reading. Therefore, if English learners adopt the right reading skills, they can read more effectively and efficiently. By reading, English learners can extend knowledge horizon and cultivate a sense of language etc. This paper will analyze and comment on the advantages and disadvantages of English reading skills, and provide a reference for English learners.
