His character can be reflected in two aspects: positive and negative. The analysis on this novel indicates that Robinson was a complicated civilized man, consisting of positive elements as bravery, kindness, optimism and so on and of negative elements as occasional cowardice, cruelty, fatality and so forth. This thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is the positive sides of Robinson’s character, including his diligence, reason, faith and commercial talent. And for these characters, Robinson can struggle to live. For the second part, Robinson’s vanity?and?racial?prejudice represent the?characteristics?of?colonialism?in?western?culture?at?that?time.
