   The Repository Information System is client-independent Report trees are client-specific  The SAP application hierarchy provides you with an overview of applications, divided into application areas and presented as a tree structure. The development class forms the lowest-level node. You can branch to the Respository Information System by selecting an application node, itself divided into several development classes. When searching further in the information system, the Development class selection field already contains (as a default) the development class selected from the application hierarchy.  The Repository Information System enables you to search for Repository objects by their characteristics. This feature permits you to target program searches. You can use the Repository Information System to obtain a complete overview of all the programs contained in an R/3 System.  Reports are executable programs (such as ABAP programs, queries, drilldowns, and so on) that read data from the database, evaluate it and then output it. You can do the following from a report tree: Organize reports and variants according to freely defined criteria Create, save, and redisplay lists In a report tree, you can assign authorizations for structure nodes. During execution of a node, the system checks the authorization of the superior structure node.  Report trees can appear in the menu of the application to which they apply (Report selection).
