Introduction
This essay will take the leadership of Anna Wintour as a case study to analyze the foundations of organizational human behaviour. Based on introductions of the relevant theories, this article will further discuss on issues related to human behaviour at work in a challenging, questioning and critical perspective, with the intention to find out identifiable specific traits of the concept leadership.
Perspectives toward human behaviour at work and relevant theories
2.1 Implications of leadership: differences from management
Before defining the concept of leadership, it is extremely important to identify the differences between leadership and management. The concept management inherently emphasizes the organizational function performed by managers to realize the goal of achieving profitability, of which the implication is relatively conformist. On the other hand, leadership put more emphasis on the initiative of influencing and guiding others into the organizational pursuit of particular objectives or visions for the future, along with the incentives which encourage other employees into autonomous following. Therefore, the concept of leadership intrinsically involves attributes of leaders including personal traits, appropriate behaviour, skills to control processes and flexible abilities to change leading style to different contexts.
Generally speaking, there are three different theories of leadership—trait theories, behaviour theories and situational theories.
