Infrastructure Sector Performance The overall Power generation in the country during April 2007-January 2008 at 586.03 Billion Units (BU) was marginally lower (0.3%) than the target set for the period, but it recorded a growth of 6.3% over the power generation during the corresponding period of the previous year. The growth rate during April 2006–January 2007 was also 7.6%. The production of Coal during April 2007-January 2008 at 353.64 Million Tonnes (MT) was 4.3% lower than the target set for the period, but it was 4.8% higher than the production for the corresponding period of the previous year. The growth rate was marginally higher as compared to the achievement of 5.2% in April 2006-January 2007. The finished Steel production during April 2007-January 2008 at 44.98 MT was 4.1% lower than the target, but it registered a growth of 6.4% over the production of 42.27 MT during the corresponding period of the previous year. The growth rate has decreased, compared to 10.9% achieved during the corresponding period of the previous year. Cement production during April 2007-January 2008 at 141.56 MT was 6.7% higher than the production of 132.63 MT for the corresponding period of the previous year. The growth rate has declined compared to 10.5% achieved during April 2006 - January 2007.
