Microsoft Access: Building UIs with Forms
Brief Introduction to Access
Open Access ( Select the Blank Database option ( Enter a name for the database and Click on Create
You will be presented with a tabs interface with the following titles:
Tables: Presents a list of all the tables in the open database and allows you to create new tables and open existing tables (design view vs. datasheet view).
Queries: Presents a list of all automated queries (that find, update, add, delete, and otherwise maintain the data in the existing tables) developed in the open database.
Forms: Presents a list of forms created in the database. A form is a window (or screen) containing controls (e.g., labels, text boxes, option buttons, check boxes, list boxes, combo boxes, command buttons, images, tabs).
Pages: Similar to forms, but for web pages.
Reports: Presents a list of reports created in the database that the users will likely want to generate.
Macros: Provide the functionality of the system. Macros are a pre-specified set of actions that are taken when initiated (for example, by clicking on a control on a form). For example, clicking on a button on a form may initiate a macro that presents the user with a different form (or UI screen). In this way macros can help users navigate through the UI. Alternatively, clicking on another button may initiate a macro that runs a query based on some criteria specified by the user. Macros provide connections between the forms (i.e., the UI) with which users interact and the underlying tables that they are trying to manipulate.
Modules: Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to perform functions more complex than those enabled by the limited (but very powerful) set of macro functions.
