EPA CERTIFICATION TRAINING for Air Conditioning Refrigeration Technicians Federal Clean Air Act - 608 This presentation is designed to help technicians prepare for the EPA 608 Certification Exam. This exam is offered regularly by DESIGN AIR UNIVERSITY at locations throughout Wisconsin and Michigans U.P. You must pre-register for this exam. When you pre-register, you will receive a study guide that will help you prepare for the exam. Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act REQUIRES All persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of appliances that contain regulated refrigerants, be certified in proper refrigerant handling techniques. If EPA regulations change after a technician becomes certified, it is the responsibility of the technician to comply with any future changes. There are Four (4) Categories of Technician Certification  TYPE I Persons who maintain, service or repair small appliances must be certified as Type I technicians. TYPE II Persons, who maintain, service, repair or dispose of high or very high-pressure appliances, except small appliances and motor vehicle air conditioning systems, must be certified as Type II technicians. TYPE III Persons, who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of low-pressure appliances must be certified as Type III technicians. UNIVERSAL Persons, who maintain, service or repair both low and high-pressure equipment, as well as small appliances, must be certified as Universal technicians.
