IS 475/675: Database Design Project – Part 1 What is the purpose of this part of the project? The objective of this part of the project is to design a database to support the requested operations of the company described in this document. This project requires you to: Identify the data required to be stored for the application. Identify the entities, attributes, primary keys, relationships and foreign keys. Create a normalized logical data model. What are the deliverables from this part of the project? The primary deliverable for this part of the project is a data model in third normal form. This data model should be documented using a logical entity-relationship diagram (ERD). The ERD must be produced using a computer-based tool such as Visio. Please do not turn in an ERD drawn by hand. The data model will be included as part of a design report. The design report serves as a summary of the work you have completed on this part of the project. The format of the report is up to you, but be sure the report includes the following topics: The purpose of the report. Make sure that the first paragraph explains the objective of the report and briefly describes the contents. Do not include a physical table of contents at the front of the report. A description of the data model. The ERD should be in this section of the report. Feel free to use a piece of paper larger than 8.5 x 11 (taped together is OK) if needed to fully present your data model. Include in the description a statement of any assumptions (beyond those discussed in this project assignment sheet) made when creating the data model. A description of the limitations of the data model. All data models have limitations. Explain any data needed by this organization that you have elected not to store. Make sure you include your reasoning for not storing data. To evaluate the limitations of your data model, look at the “information requirements” and see if your data model could be used to answer
