Teaching Material Decisions Destiny Type of lesson Reading Theoretical basis English teaching and learning is an interactive activity between the teachers and the students. The students learn not only the important words and phrases in the material but also the message, the information or even the philosophy conveyed in it. Therefore I intend to avoid organizing my class mechanically. I hope my class will be two-way communication rather than a one-way training program. To achieve that goal, I will try my best to make the class interesting and full of life. And the key to vitality, I believe is to relate the learning material with the real life, either of the students or other communities. I believe by engaging the students in meaningful language activities, the students will pick up the language more naturally and efficiently. So my main task as a teacher in the classroom is to design various activities which move forward step and step and present the students with a stage on which to discuss with and help each other. Of course the effect of the lively classroom needs to be strengthened in the form of appropriate written work and other tasks like reciting and dictations. Analysis of the teaching material This article is a reading passage intended for Senior 2 students. With 8 new words and a few difficult sentences, the adapted text proves suitable for them in terms of difficulty. The theme conveyed to the students is that our decisions, which are made every second in our life, do count. They actually shape our destiny. The passage compares the difference between an interest and a decision, pointing out that the power of a decision comes from one’s commitment. Its persuasive effect is reinforced by the convincing example of Neal Peterson, who achieved the seemingly impossible. I suppose the teaching material will interest the students and benefit them in the long run. Analysis of the students This is a group of Senior 2 students
