Amended by Act no. 74/2005 (took effect 1 Oct. 2005) CHAPTER I Objectives, scope and definitionsArticle 1Objectives [The objective of this Act is: a. to ensure that, before consent is granted for a project which may, due to its location, the activities which it will involve, its nature or extent, have significant effects on the environment, an assessment of the environmental impact of the relevant project has been carried out,b. to minimise as far as possible the negative environmental impact of a project, c. to promote co-operation of stakeholders and concerned parties with regard to projects subject to the provisions of this Act, d. to make known to the public the environmental impact of projects subject to the provisions of this Act, and mitigating measures to deal with them, and to give the public the opportunity to comment and contribute information before the National Planning Agency’s opinion on environmental impact assessment of a project is issued.] Article 2Scope [This Act applies to projects subject to the provisions of this Act, on land, in Icelandic territorial waters, air space, and within Iceland’s pollution zone.] Article 3Definitions For the purpose of this Act, the following words and expressions shall have the meanings ascribed to them below: a. … b.
