Neither the European Commission nor any person acting on behalf of the Commission is responsible for the use which might be made of the following information.  PREFACE This catalogue provides an overview of objectives, expected results and benefits of the environmental applications projects of the Information Society Technologies (IST) programme (1998-2002) which are now running. The projects were retained following relevant calls for proposals in the Key Action 1 Systems and Services for the Citizen. The aim of Key Action 1 is to foster the creation of the next generation of interoperable general interest application systems to meet user demands for flexible access, for everybody, from anywhere, at any time, in order to contribute to the implementation of the Programme’s vision of an “ambient intelligence” landscape. Environmental applications projects contribute to the achievement of the objective of sustainable development in an environmental friendly society, by developing new applications and tools for efficient environmental monitoring, data collection and information management, decision support and warning systems, communication systems for data and information flow, sharing
