Solutions to the Problems of the New Textbook’s Application in the Rural Areas Introduction In 2001, new curriculum was initialized as one important reform in English. With the widespread use of English new textbook, China makes great effort to improve English education. A great number of teachers and students benefit from the application of the new material,which is not only good for the students to improve all kinds of skills,but also for the teachers to advance their professional skills. However, in the rural areas, there occurred many problems, which are from many aspects,such as, students have little interests in studying English; teachers lack of professional skills;the poor teaching condition;the disconnection between primary and middle school English teaching etc. To improve the efficiency of the new textbook, we have to adopt some strategies to handle them. At the same time, analysis of the problems is an important factor. This essay aims to analyze the English teaching problems which appeared in the rural areas and present some strategies to improve the English teaching and learning. I. A Brief Introduction to the Application of the New Textbook A. A Brief Introduction to the Use of the New Textbook Under the guidance of the national English curriculum, the new textbook began to apply in many middle schools all round China since 2002.Many schools benefit from it, and their English teaching get a higher improvement in many areas ,but in the rural areas,there are lots of problems in the application of the new textbook.1 B. Characteristics of the New Textbook 1. To Develop All Around Capabilities New standard English are designed to develop students’ all around capabilities,such as students’ real-use tasks of creative ability, comprehensive ability, students’ thinking skills of word map construction, the ability of information acquisition, and so on. 2.
