China was the first country to write down its advice to farmers. Jia Sixie was the first person to write a clear description of the best farming practices of his day. Jia Sixie, author of China’s first agricultural encyclopedia (百科全书) , was one of the leading agronomists (农学家) in Chinese history. In the late years of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534), he wrote Qimin Yaoshu (Essential Skills for the Common People). It is the earliest and most complete agricultural encyclopedia still in existence in China. How agricultural ideas may have been spread and how do you think this was done?
